Sources: Tottenham now clear favourites ahead of Newcastle to sign Iling-Junior
Tottenham now lead the race to sign Juventus youngster Samuel Iling-Junior ahead of Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs have made the 20-year-old winger a top priority ahead of the start of the January transfer window.
As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (8 December), Juventus are willing to accept offers of around £20million for Iling-Junior.
The Serie A giants are looking to sell the youngster and raise funds in order to buy a new midfielder after Paul Pogba’s suspension left manager Massimiliano Allegri short of options.
Iling-Junior’s contract in Turin is set to run until 2025 and Juventus want to cash in on him in January before his value starts to decrease.
Both Tottenham and Newcastle showed interest in bringing Iling-Junior back to England, but sources have now informed Football Insider that Spurs are clear favourites to complete a deal.
Tottenham are happy to match Juventus’ £20million asking price, while Newcastle’s strict budget for the January transfer window means they are unlikely to match Spurs’ offer.
Despite the wealth of their owners, Newcastle find themselves limited by Financial Fair Play regulations after spending heavily in recent windows.
Spurs are expected to table a bid for the former Chelsea academy star early next month.
Iling-Junior has made 22 first-team appearances and scored once for the Old Lady during his three years in Italy.
