TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham to sign a new striker to replace Richarlison up front.
Spurs returned to the top four with an important win over Everton at the weekend. They’re in a great place now at Christmas, but Agbonlahor believes a new striker is a necessity for Ange Postecoglou in January.
Gabby Agbonlahor says Richarlison is not good enough for Tottenham
Tottenham signed Richarlison from Everton last year, but his first season as a Spurs player was awful.
The Brazil international managed to score just three goals in 35 appearances in all competitions. Only one of those came in the Premier League.
Richarlison had a poor start to this season as well, scoring just once in his first 10 league games. Everyone expected another difficult campaign for the 26-year-old, but he is turning things around at Tottenham.
Since returning from the surgery he underwent last month, Richarlison looks like a totally different player. He has been amazing and has scored four goals in his last three games.
However, Gabby Agbonlahor is still not convinced by the Brazilian and feels Spurs should sign a new striker to replace him in January.
He said on talkSPORT: “Spurs need a striker, Richarlison might as well come sit next to me on a Monday night in my five-a-side, he’s not good enough, he’s not what Spurs need.”
Richarlison can become Tottenham’s main man now
Son Heung-min has almost carried Tottenham on his back in attack since the start of this season, but when the South Korean goes away to represent his country next month, someone else will have to step up.
We think Richarlison can be that man.
The Brazilian looks so much like the player we saw at Everton during his time there. He looks pain-free, is moving really well, and four goals in his last three games show that he is in great form as well.
Richarlison will continue to have doubters until he delivers on a consistent basis, but we really think he has what it takes to do the job for Tottenham in the coming weeks and months.
