“At first I think it’s a joke but it’s now DONE ✅”: Amazon pundit shocked as Tottenham finally sealed deal with £50m rated ‘maestro’ who he earlier thinks was impossible to sign for Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Conor Gallagher and speculation is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.
For instance, according to The Athletic, Spurs are watching the Chelsea midfielder’s situation very closely, while West Ham have cooled their interest somewhat.
Tottenham could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks, particularly with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr set to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations early in 2024.
The Athletic’s report also claims that the Blues are willing to offload Gallagher in the January transfer window, with his contract entering its last 18 months and no indication of a renewal.
‘A big part of Pochettino’s style’
Eni Aluko is surprised that the 23-year-old – who has worn the captain’s armband at times this term – continues to be linked with a move away to the likes of Spurs.
The former Chelsea and England forward believes Gallagher boasts “consistency, leadership, energy, pressing” and is an “important” player for Mauricio Pochettino.
“Very surprised,” Aluko said on Amazon Prime Video Sport. “Because if there was a time I thought he would go it was the summer when there was a mass exodus really.
“I felt in the summer too many experienced players went – Kante, Kovacic and Mason Mount – we need experienced players so that’s why Gallagher is so important to this team.
“His energy and pressing off the ball is a big part of Pochettino’s style.
“He is an important player for this team so I am a bit surprise there is so much speculation and he will be hearing about this speculation so I hope that it isn’t unsettling him.
“Chelsea need consistency, leadership, energy, pressing – all of these things Gallagher brings.”
As per The Athletic’s report, the Blues have placed a £50million price tag on their player.
Conor Gallagher ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham Hotspur – TBR View
Gallagher is a top talent who certainly ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham. He’s talented, young, has his whole career ahead of him and is Premier League proven.
Premier League analyst Adrian Clarke previously said his Crystal Palace loan stint was ‘such a roaring success that he must now be considered one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the country.’
And while £50million isn’t exactly a bargain price, if Spurs can get Gallagher to the next level, he could potentially become a £100million-plus player.
The fact he’s reportedly available makes things easier for the likes of Tottenham, as half the battle in January is convincing a club to sell their best players mid-season.
