Lakers News: LA ‘Hesitant’ To Take On Contract Of Potential All-Star In Trade

With the way that the Los Angeles Lakers have been playing of late, there have been multiple calls for the team to make changes to the roster. Many around the game have said that the Lakers need to trade for a third-star player, but the issue is that L.A. doesn’t have a lot of trade assets.

Some names that have been floating around the team have been All-Star shooting guard Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls and All-Star combo guard Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks. Both would represent a third star player alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Yahoo Sports’ NBA Insider Jake Fischer has reported that the Lakers are ‘hesitant’ about taking on the contract of LaVine. He still has three more years on his deal that will pay him upwards of $40 million each season.

“The struggling Lakers do forecast as the most sensible landing spot for the 28-year-old former All-Star, even though Los Angeles, too, has so far indicated a hesitancy to take on LaVine’s money, sources said.”

Landing LaVine would give the Lakers a better chance to win the title this season, but his contract may prevent them from making a deal. The Lakers front office has been against bringing on too much future salary in order to preserve flexibility down the line.

LaVine would give the Lakers another player who can score on their own, and he could take the ball-handing duties away from James a little bit. He would instantly help their offensive attack, which has been heavily struggling this season.

There are a lot of pros for the Lakers to acquire LaVine, but it remains to be seen if the team will pull the trigger. Fans will be calling for change over the next few weeks leading up to the trade deadline, and the Lakers will need to do something sooner rather than later.
