Tottenham make Radu Dragusin breakthrough as transfer solves three Ange Postecoglou problems

The January transfer window is set to be filled with drama, with Tottenham the latest team to experience the ups and downs of an intensely short window. Spurs are closing in on two potential signings that could bolster Ange Postecoglou’s squad and take them to the next level.

The first is Timo Werner as football.london understands the RB Leipzig is set to join on a short six-month loan for the remainder of the season. Should the former Chelsea striker impress in that spell, there is an option to land him, with a clause worth no more than £15.5million included in the transaction.

While that will help add to the options available in front of goal, questions remain over how the backline can be added to in the weeks ahead. The club fell short of adding two new first-team centre-backs in the summer window, with the signing of Micky van de Ven going down a treat nonetheless.

His following injury, mixed with the absence of Cristian Romero, has seen the side pay the price for missing out on another defender though, There will be an attempt to remedy that this month, with Genoa’s Radu Dragusin the latest linked with making such a switch to London.

It’s a deal that could be edging even closer as reports from Fabrizio Romano claim that an offer for the Romanian international has been accepted. An initial bid worth roughly £21.5million would be paid, with £4million worth of add-ons included, though Bayern Munich are still showing interest in a potential deal.

That’s not the only part of the transfer on the table though, as Romano also claims that Djed Spence could be moving the other way on a loan spell for the remainder of the season. The wing-back recently returned from an unsuccessful six-months with Leeds, and football.london understands he is training with the Under-21s until his future is resolved.

The deal would help solve an issue with depth at centre-back, while also moving on a player that would merely facilitate a squad role at best. Then there’s a third boost in there too, should Tottenham beat Bayern Munich to Dragusin, due to their involvement in the future of Eric Dier.

Bayern’s move for the defender may be in jeopardy if they land another centre-back, however Spurs beating them to another target may only increase the chances of Dier switching to Bavaria. The England international has been out of favour under Postecoglou and with just a few months left on his deal, any exit to raise funds may be a positive move for all parties.
