JUST IN – Gary Neville sends a mockery message to Tottenham and entire fans after condemning 22-year-old Tottenham star’s performance vs Manchester united.
Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson was unable to make an impact for his side in their 2-2 draw away at Manchester United on Sunday 14 January.
Ange Postecoglou’s side largely dominated the contest, but struggled in front of goal and had to settle for a point on their trip up north.
The Australian was without key players such as Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, and on another day, Spurs may have left with all three points.
Johnson was one of the few forward players available to Postecoglou, but he struggled to make any meaningful contributions.
He has made a mixed start to life in a Spurs shirt since his £47.5million switch from Nottingham Forest in the summer (Sky Sports News, 2 September 2023).
He has been utilised heavily by Ange Postecoglou but has struggled at times, scoring just one goal but also providing four assists in his first 15 league games for the North London outfit.
At Old Trafford against United, his performance will certainly go into the category of his struggles for Tottenham.
While he often got himself into good positions and looked as if he was going to threaten, his end product was poor and he struggled to have an impact on the match.
Sky Sports pundit and former United right-back Gary Neville eluded to this while on commentary during the match.
After the Wales international had failed with a ball into the box during the first half, Neville said live on Sky Sports Premier League (14 January, 17:05), “It’s so disappointing Brennan Johnson, it’s a really good chance to play it to Richarlison”.
Disappointing would certainly be the word that springs to mind when describing Johnson’s overall performance.
As per Sofascore, the 22-year-old attempted three dribbles but was unsuccessful with each of them as he continually struggled to get the better of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
He completed 82 per cent of his passes, with one of those being key, but was only successful with three of the seven crosses which he attempted.
The Wales international won just 40 per cent of his ground duels, winning four of his ten, and gave possession away 14 times. He huffed and puffed defensively, making two tackles and one interception, but was also dribbled past twice at Old Trafford.
Johnson will hope to make more of an impression in the coming weeks as Spurs look to live without top scorer Son.
