‘I was nervous before the kickoff’: 27-year-old Tottenham player admits that h was worried before the match vs Manchester united but thanks to Ange for the motivation and clever tactics used.
Timo Werner has admitted that he was nervous heading into his Tottenham debut yesterday against Manchester United.
The Germany international was named in the starting XI as the north London side took on the Red Devils at Old Trafford, with Werner getting an assist in what was to be a 2-2 draw for Tottenham.
Despite some rusty finishing, it was a good debut for the 27-year-old attacker, with Werner linking up well with his new teammates having only just joined a few days ago.
And speaking to Match of the Day 2, Werner admitted that he was nervous heading into the match, with the Tottenham forward saying he could have had an easier start to life as a Spurs player.
Werner said: “I was a bit nervous before the game to play first game for Spurs, it’s such a big club and then at Old Trafford against Man United it could be an easier start for debut!
“But in the end I think it was actually the right game to go in and have fun and be part of the group. To have a big game at the beginning to get straight into the Premier League.”

As Werner himself mentions, an away trip to United could not have been a more difficult reintroduction back into the Premier League for the RB Leipzig man.
However, despite the attacker’s previous reputation in England with Chelsea, Werner made a good account of himself for Tottenham on the night at Old Trafford.
Werner’s pace down the left caused United numerous problems, and had the German international’s finishing been better, Tottenham could have come away with all three points in Manchester.
Indeed, Werner has adapted to life at Tottenham quickly, and it might not be long before the 27-year-old is back on the scoresheet in the Premier League with Spurs.
