Tottenham Hotspur are now preparing a bid for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes as they eye alternatives to Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher is known to be Tottenham’s first choice midfield target this winter. However, the Chelsea skipper wants to stay at Stamford Bridge if he can and Tottenham would also need to find around £50m to make the deal happen.

Of course, that means Tottenham need to look at other options. And after reports last week suggested Wolves’ Joao Gomes was now a realistic target, it looks like Spurs are preparing a bid.

According to Gavea News, hold a hefty interest in signing Gomes and are now preparing a bid thought to be worth around £30m for the midfielder.

For Wolves, that would represent a profit given they paid £16m for Gomes (per the same report).

Of course, Gomes is a regular for Gary O’Neil’s up and coming Wolves side and after selling players in the summer, there is no pressing need for the Molineux outfit to urgently cash in right now.

Spurs are trying to sign a midfielder this month but know that getting a deal over the line will be tough.

The intention is to get Gallagher from Chelsea but with that looking tougher by the week, Gomes looks a viable alternative.

Any deal for Gomes will include a sell-on fee going to Flamengo.

One to watch for Spurs

You get the impression that if Spurs do sign a midfielder this month, it’s going to be really late on.

They’ll be giving the Gallagher deal every chance and with that, it means they’re likely to keep their finger off the button until the last minute.

Gomes, though, is certainly an interesting player for Spurs fans to keep in mind.

He could literally slot straight into the XI and has PL experience already. Lauded as ‘incredible‘ by Gary O’Neil, there is definitely reason to believe Gomes can succeed at Spurs.
