Jayson Tatum is known as the leader of the Boston Celtics and one of the NBA’s rising stars. At just 25 years old, the St. Louis native has achieved a tremendous amount of success in his field. Tatum is now looking to give something back to the community.
On Tuesday the Celtics forward announced a partnership with SoFi to help low-income single-parent families build wealth for the future. SoFi, a financial services company, has committed $1 million over the next 3-5 year period Tatum’s nonprofit.

The five-time NBA All-Star and former Duke student spoke on CBS morning about the initiative and how it relates to him and his family.
“I grew up in a single parent household. Financial literacy or learning about a savings account, we never had those conversations,” said Tatum
He went on to credit his mother Brandy Cole-Barnes for the hard work and sacrifice she had to go through during his younger days. His mother was only 19 when she had Tatum and seeing her struggle had an impact on the basketball star growing up.
“She sacrificed everything that she had to put in a position to achieve my dream.”
The goal for Tatum is to now help families that are in a similar position create generational wealth.
Tatum’s nonprofit, Jayson Tatum Foundation, was founded in 2017 when he was drafted to the NBA and works in a range of areas including basketball camps, give-aways, and college scholarships.
The 73rd edition of the NBA All-Star Game is set to take place on February 18th in Indianapolis, Indiana and Jayson Tatum will suit up for the Eastern Conference for the fifth time. He has been one of the league’s standout players this season averaging 27 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
