Tottenham will still struggle against Wolves despite a “massive blow” to the visitors after they lost Matheus Cunha to injury, according to John Wenham.
Spurs will host Gary O’Neil’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they look to record back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-December.
Wolves will be without Cunha after the forward suffered a “significant” hamstring injury in the 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday 10 February (via BBC Sport, 14 February).
While this will hurt the visitors’ chances of claiming three points in North London, Wenham is still wary of the threat the away side pose.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Cunha is an impressive player. He is more or less first in every attacking stat for Wolves this season and he’s a real focal point for them.
“He had kind of gone under the radar before that hattrick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks ago, and his absence is a massive blow for them.
“Having said that, they still have some very good players, the likes of Hwang Hee-Chan and Pedro Neto, and we’ve always had difficult games against Wolves.
“We have lost on our last two trips to Molineux, and just about scraped past them at home last season, so while I do expect Spurs to win the game, I think it will be difficult.”
Tottenham have now excuses
This was already a must-win game before the Cunha news.
Considering Spurs’ opponents have now lost one of their most in-form players to injury, there are absolutely no excuses for Postecoglou and his players.
If they want to qualify for UEFA Champions League football next season, then these are the type of games they need to win.
Spurs are more or less back to full strength after an extended period where several key players were missing.
Their fans will want to see the form they started in at the beginning of the season once again now that all of their stars are back, and that must start on Saturday against Wolves.
