Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust is dismayed by the Club as Season Tickets price was increased [Full story link in comment]
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) has expressed profound dismay and discontent over the recent announcement by the club regarding the increase in Season Ticket prices by six percent. Alongside this decision, the club has also indicated plans to either eliminate or reduce Senior concessions, a move vehemently opposed by both the Trust and the Fan Advisory Board.
In a meeting held on February 21, THST Board members engaged in discussions with club representatives for the first time regarding the Season Ticket proposals. While the Trust’s input during this session did lead to some alterations in the proposals, they continue to harbor significant reservations about the final decisions made.
Despite the club’s assurance that discounts for senior Season Tickets and matchday tickets will remain unchanged for the upcoming 2024/25 season, THST remains deeply troubled by the complete removal of new Senior concessions starting from the subsequent 2025/26 season. This decision, they argue, will disproportionately impact older supporters who have been steadfast in their loyalty to the club over the years.
Moreover, the gradual reduction of discounts for senior Season Tickets over the next five years, culminating in a 25 percent increase in costs by 2029/30, is seen as an unjustifiable burden on elderly fans. THST emphasizes that such pricing adjustments will significantly strain the financial resources of pensioners, many of whom have limited incomes.
The club’s rationale for the six percent price increase, citing a previous nominal increase and mounting matchday costs, is met with skepticism by THST. They contend that these justifications fail to adequately address the concerns raised by supporters and neglect to consider the financial constraints faced by many fans, particularly seniors.
Additionally, the Trust believes that a more inclusive and collaborative approach at the outset of this process could have yielded a more satisfactory outcome with broader support from the fan base. By engaging in a comprehensive dialogue with the club from the beginning, THST argues, a more equitable solution could have been reached that considers the needs and interests of all stakeholders involved.
As such, THST urges the club to reconsider its decision and to prioritize the welfare and affordability of its loyal supporters, particularly seniors, in future pricing policies and decisions. They emphasize the importance of maintaining an open and transparent dialogue between the club and its fan base to ensure that the interests of supporters are adequately represented and respected.
