“Forget the fact that Spurs win…….”: Conor Coady issues verdict on Radu Dragusin’s performance after coming on for Spurs today [Full story link in comment]

Conor Coady has issued his verdict on the performance of Radu Dragusin as Tottenham Hotspur claimed a massive win in the battle to make the top four in the Premier League on Sunday.

Goals from James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner saw Spurs beat Aston Villa at Villa Park. A disappointing day for Unai Emery got much worse when John McGinn was sent off for a wild swipe at Destiny Udogie.

But it was not the perfect afternoon for Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou’s side lost Micky van de Ven due to injury at the start of the second-half.

Conor Coady praises Radu Dragusin in Tottenham win

It was clearly something Spurs were bracing themselves for. Radu Dragusin was ready to go almost immediately, with van de Ven going down off the ball when no-one was around him.

Dragusin is still somewhat unproven since his move to North London in the January transfer window. So this was a real opportunity for the Romanian to impress.

And after Dragusin did superbly to cut out a Villa chance, Conor Coady told BBC Radio Five Live that he had been really impressed by the 22-year-old.

“I tell you what, Dragusin’s been really, really good since he’s come on,” he said.

“We said when van de Ven went off, does it affect the way Tottenham do things? We know they don’t want to change. But at the same time he’s come on and the ball in behind to start off with and that bit of defending there was fantastic from him.”

Brilliant opportunity for January signing

Of course, many Tottenham fans will be nervously waiting to find out how serious van de Ven’s injury is. He has had hamstring issues since arriving. And he is so important to the system Tottenham want to play.

Dragusin could however, have a fantastic opportunity to show what he can do. Bayern Munich wanted Dragusin before he signed for Tottenham. So he clearly has huge potential.

And his performance after coming off the bench on Sunday suggests that he is ready to take his chance.
