Tottenham take on Aston Villa today in a massive game as part of a Super Sunday that also sees Liverpool take on Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou’s side square off against the Villans knowing a result is massive in terms of their hopes of making the top four.

For Tottenham, it will be about their key players turning up and among those key players are summer signings, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven. The duo have been integral since arriving in big-money deals last year and Van de Ven in particular has caught the eye.

Indeed, speaking to Sky Sports about his Dutch teammate, midfielder Maddison has lauded the defender’s pace and physical nature.

James Maddison praises Micky van de Ven

Speaking to Sky Sports, Maddison was full of praise for Van de Ven, admitting he can see exactly why Ange Postecoglou signed him.

“It’s no surprise to me that the gaffer really wanted him in the summer. Just because of now we know how Ange wants to play and we are learning his system more and more. I can see why he wanted Micky, just because we do play an aggressive line. His pace is frightening really, like you see some of the recovery runs against Palace, it’s just out of this world at times. The sheer pace and physicality he has, and to go with that a ball playing centre-half, they’re hard to find and normally expensive. He’s just another level in terms of pace and power” Maddison said.

A superb Spurs signing

Tottenham got it right in the summer in the main and Micky van de Ven has been one of the best signings they’ve made in years.

The big Dutchman was a huge loss when he went down with a hamstring injury earlier in the season but he has sprung back into life in the second half of the season and been brilliant.

As Maddison says here, he is perfect for the way Ange wants to play and over time, Van de Ven should prove a remarkable piece of business for Spurs at around the £34m mark.
