Tottenham were hammered this evening by Fulham as they failed to build on last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.

Spurs handed the initiative back to Unai Emery’s side, who take on West Ham tomorrow knowing they can right the wrongs of last weekend with three points.

For Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou, it was a frustrating night at the office. The defending was a bit off and at the other end, they simply did not have their shooting boots on.

At the back, without Micky van de Ven, they looked off their usual standards and they were pretty much punished for every single lapse in concentration.

Pedro Porro takes the wrath of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in Tottenham defeat

Indeed, the defensive side of things seemed to be a problem and midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was spotted fuming with Pedro Porro at one point.

In the 73rd minute, Fulham broke down the left as both Willian and Antonee Robinson had ample space and time to get a ball into the box. Tottenham did clear the ball, but the camera panned to Hojbjerg, who gestured to Porro not once but twice that he should be closer and putting a tackle in. The Dane, it seemed, was pretty unimpressed with the commitment from the Spaniard.

£40m signing Porro, who has just been called up the Spain squad, had an off night and was nowhere near his usual self.

Quite whether playing for his country was on his mind, is another question entirely.

Very ‘Spursy’

Tottenham have that nickname for a reason and tonight was a prime example of why they’ll never be pushing for the title without significant changes.

Yes, it might just be one performance and last week was a different story. But Tottenham boss Postecoglou won’t be happy with what he saw tonight and it will be interesting to listen to his presser.

Tottenham just have to find consistency if they are to challenge. Tonight’s defensive frailties were clear for all to see, while at the other end, the shooting boots deserted them.

Postecoglou, then, has a lot to think about in the next few weeks.
