HEARTBREAKING ๐ – Tottenham Star Sets Sights on La Liga Move – Credits Postecoglou’s Impact on His Career Development [Full story link in comment]
Pedro Porro has cemented his place at Tottenham Hotspur and been one of the standout players under Ange Postecoglou this season. The right-back has scored a goal and registered eight assists from 27 games for the north London club.
The Spain internationalโs form for Spurs has seen him return to the national squad for Marchโs international break, after a yearโs absence.
This gave El Espaรฑol an opportunity to have a chat with Porro, who joined Tottenham from Sporting in January 2023.
The 24-year-old made 17 appearances for the Premier League side in the second half of last season, managing three goals and three assists in the process. He received criticism for his mixed performances in his first months at Tottenham.
El Espaรฑol point that out and add that some of the criticism was unpleasant and difficult to listen to, at a time when the fullback had arrived in a new league.
โObviously nobody likes criticism. But in this world, you are exposed to good and bad things being said about you. At the end of the day, you donโt care as long as you are confident in yourself,โ he said.
โI knew that I was going to get a lot of criticism and that it was going to be hard at first. Not everyone is perfect and goes and fits in the first time. Now Iโve been working really hard to turn that criticism into praise and now Iโm feeling more affection.โ
The Spaniardโs situation has improved under Postecoglou and on his recent form, Porro explained: โItโs different from when I arrived. Now I feel more important in the team. I feel much more confident. That, at the end of the day, also makes you better. Iโm feeling much better, more and more, as the games go by. Iโm more used to playing in the Premier League and I think thatโs important.โ
Porro spent two years at Girona before moving to Manchester City in 2019. El Espaรฑol asked the defender if he would like to return to Spain, where he was linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past.
Responding to that, the Tottenham player said: โIn football you never know. Today you are playing there and tomorrow you can be playing somewhere else. Being Spanish, of course, I would like to come back and enjoy La Liga. When I played here in Primera, I enjoyed it very much and I hope one day to return, of course.โ
