Tottenham are among the Premier League teams to have a high number of internationals away playing for their countries this week.

A number of top Spurs stars have jetted off around the world to play. And so far, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag really.

Pedro Porro was given a dismal 3/10 for his performance with Spain. On the other side of things, both Cristian Romero and Gio Lo Celso scored for Argentina and earned praise for their performances.

Frustratingly for Spurs fans, James Maddison didn’t get on the pitch in England’s 1-0 loss against Brazil.

However, over in Denmark, another midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, did get selected. And it’s safe to say he didn’t give his most impressive performance.

Tottenham midfielder criticised for 3/10 performance for Denmark v Switzerland

Hojbjerg, of course, is one of the squad players at Tottenham and when everyone is fit, he doesn’t get picked as a starter.

But he was given 83 minutes for Denmark in a forgettable 0-0 draw with Switzerland. However, his performance didn’t go down too well with the Danish media.

Sport.TV2 were quick to give their player ratings for the Danes, and unfortunately for Hojbjerg, it was bad news.

“A player who needs to play a lot. And he doesn’t do that at Tottenham. Started with several ball captures, but as time went on, he became too impatient and forced his game too much. A messy effort,” they wrote.

Certainly, it seems Hojbjerg’s lack of game time caught up with him on this occasion.

The £20m Tottenham man is usually such a reliable performer that this 3/10 rating here almost seems too hard to believe.

However, that is what he has been given. Indeed, the whole Danish team was hardly lauded, with player of the match Joakim Maehle only coming out with a 6/10.

For Hojbjerg, this will have been a disappointing night. While not playing for Tottenham has become the norm, he does pride himself on being one of the top men for Denmark.

Unfortunately, standards seem to have slipped a bit here and he’ll be keen to make amends soon.

Denmark play the Faroe Islands on Tuesday, where the midfielder will hope to put things right.
