Tottenham fans are set to turn their back on the pitch during the 65th minute of their clash with Luton Town in response to a decision made by Daniel Levy this month.
Ange Postecoglou will be preparing his players for a crucial match with the Hatters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (30 March).
Spurs are in desperate need of three points to get their UEFA Champions League ambitions back on track after they were beaten 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out (16 March).
But while Postecoglou and his players will be focussed on the task at hand, for a brief moment, the 62,000-plus supporters inside the ground will turn their attention toward Levy and the board following Spurs’ unpopular announcement earlier this month, as Tottenham revealed that season ticket prices were set to rise by six per cent for the 2024/25 campaign.
This is understandably a decision which hasn’t gone down well in North London, with the club also announcing (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 6 March) that they would be removing the concession for new season ticket holders aged 65 and above, while gradually bringing down the discount for seniors who already have a season ticket.
This move in particular has led to outrage among Spurs’ fanbase, with a supporter movement known as ‘Save our Seniors’ encouraging fans to turn their back on the action in the 65th minute on Saturday (via Football London, 28 March).
Part of the statement reads, “THFC (Tottenham Hotspur Football Club) is turning its back on some of its most loyal fans, the over 65s, by withdrawing senior concessions. We need to show these are not the values of our club. So we are asking everyone to turn their backs on the pitch on 65:00 for one minute.”

It is no surprise that the decision which will hit seniors hardest has produced the loudest response.

Supporters aged 65 and over are some of the most loyal fans at the club, and the decision to increase their prices with very little warning was never going to go down well.
Levy knows how to generate cash, but when it comes at the expense of his own supporters, it is never going to help his popularity ratings.
Saturday’s movement has been backed by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust with their chair, Martin Buhagiar, telling Football London, “We are not surprised by the outrage from supporters following the club’s announcement and the changes to the senior concessions season ticket packages.
“Indeed we warned the club of exactly this reaction during our meetings. We have been inundated with personal stories from supporters left devastated by the changes and are highlighting as many as we can via our social media channels.
“SaveOurSeniors was launched as a result of these changes and we fully support the campaign and initiative. Football fans are stronger when they come together and this illustrates that perfectly.”
If Spurs were winning trophies and spending fortunes on new signings, supporters might be more inclined to hand over their hard-earned cash.
But until fans see results on the pitch, Levy will have questions piling up at his doorstep.
