Ange Postecoglou’s Strategic Vision: Primary Tottenham Target Identified as 12-Month Plan Unveiled [Full story link in comment]
Ange Postecoglou has outlined his target for the next 12 months ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against West Ham. David Moyes will welcome the Lilywhites to the London Stadium on Tuesday evening as either side hopes to climb the Premier League table.
Spurs head into the game following a 2-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, meanwhile, the Hammers surrendered a 3-1 lead to Newcastle United at St James’ Park losing 4-3. Postecoglou’s side will be determined to pile on the misery against West Ham and take a huge step towards securing a place in the top four.
Nevertheless, speaking to reporters ahead of what is poised to be a fiery London derby, the Tottenham boss laid out the club’s target for the next year or so. Postecoglou said: “We want to finish the season strong and keep building on the foundation of being a team that hopefully in 12 months’ time people are looking at us differently and talking about us differently.
“To do that it can’t just be about where you finish and how many points you get, it’s got to be more than that. Obviously if we finish strong then we’ll finish in a decent position and we’ll see where that takes us.”
Then, on the future of Timo Werner, whose loan spell in north London expires at the end of the season, Postecoglou remained coy. The 58-year-old said: “In terms of his future, like most players, the decisions will be made at the appropriate time. I think he’s been a great signing. He’s been a really important part of our structure and I think he can also improve.”
Earlier this month, the RB Leipzig forward was quizzed on joining the Lilywhites permanently. He too kept his cards close to his chest, saying: “We have so many important games coming up in the next few weeks there’s no need to think about that.
“This was an important result because being in the Champions League places at the end of the season is our big aim. Next week we have a very big game at Aston Villa and, if we win that, we will have a very good chance of reaching our target.”
Then, on his crucial equaliser against Crystal Palace which spurred Tottenham on to win 3-1, Werner added: “I’m very pleased, very happy, because it was an important one – especially after the big first half chance.
“I haven’t really felt any pressure to score [a first Spurs goal] because the guys here have made me feel very comfortable from day one. They have made it easy for me to focus on playing football, and now I’ve got the first goal done, it’s even better for me.
“This was a big step for me to get more confidence and hopefully I can take it into our next games.”
