Chris Sutton predicts result of West Ham United v Tottenham, reveals David Moyes fury
Chris Sutton has shared his prediction ahead of West Ham United hosting Tottenham on Tuesday night in the Premier League.
The Hammers crashed to a 4-3 defeat at St James’ Park on Saturday despite holding a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes to go, while Spurs came from behind at home to claim a late win over Luton and keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.
And while speaking to BBC Sport’s website (1 April), Sutton admitted that David Moyes was “furious” with his team for their collapse and backed a “relentless” Postecoglou side to come away with another win.
“West Ham will still be smarting from the way they lost at Newcastle,” he said. “Hammers boss David Moyes took Michail Antonio off when his team were cruising at 3-1 up with around 20 minutes to go and, without him, they could not get up the pitch.
“Antonio gave them a great outlet, but Moyes will also be furious at the late goals his side conceded.
“They will be looking to bounce back here, and they will be confident because they have already beaten Tottenham once this season.
“The expansive way Spurs play suits West Ham because they will be able to hit them on the counter-attack. I think Antonio was taken off on Saturday to rest him for this game, and he will play another key role here.
“There should be a few goals at the other end too, though. Tottenham are just relentless going forward and wear teams down. Even if they go behind, I still fancy them to win this one. West Ham 2-3 Tottenham.”
West Ham need unity on and off the pitch
West Ham have been a bit of a mess this season because despite the good results and the strong position at the business end of the campaign, fans aren’t happy with performances.
That has led to a lot of speculation around the future of David Moyes, while players like Kalvin Phillips have really struggled and felt the wrath of the crowd too.
But now with such a busy schedule and a big run of fixtures ahead, the club needs to unite on and off the pitch for a positive run of results starting against Spurs.
The crowd at the London Stadium will be electric to get behind the team and go against Tottenham, which will lead beautifully into the weekend and then the Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
It won’t be easy because Spurs are a great attacking unit, but they leave plenty of opportunities for their opponents to score too and that means the door will be open for Moyes to get back to winning ways.
