The latest Tottenham news as Met Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the early hours of the morning.
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest will go ahead as planned following the death of a man close to the stadium in the early hours of the morning.
Police have confirmed that a man had been found stabbed early on Sunday morning in Northumberland Park. A murder investigation has now been launched.
Some roads around the stadium have been closed, with supporters urged to allow extra time to get to the game. In a statement, Spurs wrote: “Following an incident in which an individual has lost their life, we are doing everything to accommodate the ongoing Police investigation, which is of the utmost importance.
“This afternoon’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest will go-ahead as scheduled, however the whole of Northumberland Park Road and Vicarage Road, as well as the north end of Worcester Avenue, will remain closed throughout.
“We shall update supporters as and when we can, and ask for fans to be patient and allow extra travel time. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and all those affected.”
A statement from the Met Police added: “A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Haringey.
“Officers responded with London Ambulance Service paramedics. On arrival they found the man had suffered a number of stab injuries. CPR was administered but despite the best efforts of emergency services the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Police believe they know who the man is and are working to inform his next of kin. At this very early stage there have been no arrests.”
The game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had already been switched from Monday night to Sunday evening at late notice due to planned tube and rail strikes. The strikes have since been called off.
Forest also responded with: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their condolences to the victim’s family and friends at this truly difficult time. To those supporters making the journey to North London, please allow extra travel time.”
