WhoScored have revealed that Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven has the highest pass-completion rate across the Premier League so far this season.

Van de Ven has quickly become an indispensable part of Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the centre-back’s recovery pace and his technical quality allowing the Lilywhites to adopt an extremely high line while playing out from the back.

Spurs fans, who watch the Dutchman every week, are convinced that he is already one of the best in the world in his position. One does not just have to rely on the eye test to hold that position, with the 22-year-old’s numbers also painting a similar picture.

Van de Ven has already been clocked in as the quickest player in Premier League history since they started measuring the stat (Sky Sports).

The defender also records an average of 6.12 ball recoveries per 90 minutes, placing him in the top 10 per cent of centre-backs in the division and is yet to commit an error leading to an opponent shot on goal this season (Football Insider).

Micky Van de Ven is the Premier League’s best passer

Now WhoScored have revealed that Van de Ven also sits at the top of the tree when it comes to his usage of the ball.

They have said that the centre-back completes 95.3 per cent of the passes he has attempted this season, which is the most of any player in the English top flight.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not a big fan of the pass completion stat as it does not say anything about the difficulty of the passes attempted.

For example, Romero is a better passer of the ball than Van de Ven but the Argentine’s pass completion would be lower because he attempts more line-breaking passes.

However, there is no doubt that Van de Ven is already one of the best in the Premier League, with the Dutchman hardly having any weaknesses in his game.
