Newcastle United fans are calling for the club to sign Viktor Gyokeres after his link-up with Alexander Isak while on international duty.
Sweden took on Azerbaijan in their opening UEFA Nations League clash, running out 3-1 winners thanks to impressive displays from their forwards.
‘I’m hearing whispers… | Chelsea make last minute hijack after massive TWIST!
The strike partnership combined for three goals as Gyokeres assisted Isak twice before the Newcastle man won a penalty which his partner tucked away.
Gyokeres, 26, has become one of the most highly-coveted strikers in Europe since his move from Coventry City to Sporting CP last summer.
He scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 appearances last season, and has started this season in a similar vein, scoring seven and assisting three in five games.
Reports in January claimed Newcastle had been keeping close tabs on his progress, before heavy speculation linking him to Chelsea and Arsenal emerged more recently.
Now, calls for his arrival at St James’ Park have been renewed after supporters saw his link-up with Isak for their national team.
Newcastle United fans call for Viktor Gyokeres signing after what he and Alexander Isak did
With many of Europe’s elite clubs following Gyokeres’ progress over the past year, Newcastle may be hard-pushed to convince him to join Eddie Howe’s side.
Reports have also claimed the striker has a lofty release clause worth around £84million, which has so far deterred any interested clubs from making a move.
However, that has not put fans off calling for Newcastle to bring him to St James’ Park to once again play alongside his international strike partner.
If #NUFC want to make up for the last 3 💩 transfer windows, then in January they need to smash the bank for Gyokeres as a front 3 of:
Gyokeres, Isak, Gordon
is genuinely frightening. 💰 https://t.co/McoU9C7WT5
