Feyenoord have had the pleasure of Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh this season who they have done a superb job of developing.
Yankuba Minteh was Newcastle’s first summer signing going into this season but was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord upon signing his Newcastle contract.
He’s scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances for Feyenoord this season.
While has been criticised at times, usually for his decision making in the final third, he has worked on his flaws all season and has become such a big part of Feyenoord’s season he was used in the promo material for today’s KNVB Cup final.
A whoopsie from Minteh could have changed Feyenoord’s thinking
With Feyenoord 1-0 up and heading towards victory, Yankuba Minteh was sent off in the 72nd minute after picking up two bookings in quick succession giving his side a much more difficult task to see the game out.
The Rotterdam side did manage to hold on to seal the victory giving Minteh his first taste of silverware, but he will definitely not be feeling so good about his red card.
We can’t help but wonder what Feyenoord would have done had Minteh’s sending-off changed the game and ultimately lost them the final.
We’d love to see Minteh loaned to a Championship side
Feyenoord have been very public about wanting to keep Minteh for another season if they can’t prise him away from Newcastle permanently, but if he’d cost them silverware they may have been having a serious re-think.
Newcastle fans are looking forward to seeing the Gambian in action for the Magpies after keeping tabs on his rise at Feyenoord.
We still feel it’s more likely that he will be sent out on loan again next season, whether it back to Feyenoord or elsewhere. A loan to the Championship would probably be the best move for all parties (except Feyenoord that is), so that he can get used to the physicality of the English game before being thrown into Premier League action.
