Magpies Top Target claim Newcastle is a losers club if they can’t beat his club on Pre-season

Pre-season training is already underway for Newcastle United.

Indeed, much of Eddie Howe’s squad are now back at the training ground as attention turns to getting prepared for the domestic campaign ahead.

Having missed out on European qualification last season, Howe only has to focus on Premier League and domestic cup matters.

That is easier said than done of course but should, on paper at least, make squad management slightly easier after a season which was wrecked by constant injuries last time out.

Newcastle are set for a pre-season tour of Asia later this month but will first have a meeting against a team they are said to be in transfer talks with.

James Trafford, hailed as “outstanding” by Anthony Gordon, is a target at St James’ Park and could meet Howe’s side later this month.

Burnley to play Newcastle in behind-closed-doors friendly

The Clarets – who have recently appointed former Toon midfielder Scott Parker as their new manager – have confirmed they will play Newcastle at their training ground in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

It means Trafford, if selected, could feasibly feature for Parker’s side against the team who wish to sign him. For his part, the England U21 international is reportedly eager to join Newcastle and wages reportedly won’t be a problem if and when a deal is agreed.

Newcastle are going to ramp up attempts to sign James Trafford soon

Last week, it was reported that Newcastle not only viewed the former Manchester City youngster as a future No.1 but that they would soon be trying accelerate their move to sign him.

Burnley are thought to value the 21-year-old at close to £30m, with Newcastle said to be attempting to move closer to that fee.

Whether or not they do that before the two sides clash in pre-season remains to be seen.
