“It was a no brainer to stay here”: Tottenham Star happily pens down and extend contract until 2026
Drew Spence is keen to make on the progress made last season as she put pen to paper on a new contract with the Club.
The educated midfielder joined us in the summer of 2022 and has been a crucial figure in our side over the last two seasons, flourishing in the ending stages of the2023/24 crusade, where she netted two pretensions and registered one help in the final three Barclays Women’s Super League games.
Awarded with a new contract that will run until 2026, the 31- time-old spoke of her determination to help maintain the Club’s growth over the last 12 months and the family terrain at Hotspur Way.
“ I ’m over the moon, ” she told SPURSPLAY. “ We made good progress in the last season and it was a no- brainer for me to stay then, I ’m looking forward to seeing what the Club can do over the coming two times.
“ My biggest solicitude when I left my former club is I would noway find that family terrain again, but I feel I’ve set up that then. I feel so comfortable then, all the girls get on and, for me, that’s the most important thing. ”
Drew has wealth of experience in England’s top- flight division, winning 11 major glories in her career to date, including five WSL titles, so us reaching the Adobe Women’s FA Mug for the first time in May, 2024, was another reason she committed her future with the Club.
“ When I came then I had a lot of experience of playing for a club that won a lot of glories, so it was my thing to get to the final I was proud of us to get there, ” Drew said.
“ When you look back, it’s a moment that was a bit disappointing but you just have to look at the progress made. The season before we were battling deportation, so to go from that to also reaching the final and plenitude of progress in the league was crucial for me to stay. ”
Asked about helping the youngish players in the group, she said “ I had great leaders that I could look up to, great platoon- mates, and you just have to help them every day.
“ We’ve a lot of players with plenitude of experience, internationally and at club position, so we do have a youthful team but occasionally you need that balance with youthful and old I would n’t say I ’m old however, perhaps more seasoned. ”
Pre-season got back underway at our Enfield training base on Monday( 15 July) with a number of players returning and Drew, who’s set to be back in training coming week, was clear on the points heading into the new crusade.
“ Continuing to progress and continuing to play the style of football that we love, continue to learn further from Robert, learn further from the girls and go one step further than last time.”
When asked about our Lilywhite fanbase, she added “ Just thank you for your support, we always hear you at Brisbane Road and it was massive for us at Wembley as well, to see how numerous suckers came to support us was a massive highlight. We’re glad that we made them proud and we hope to see them turn out in their figures every week. ”
