Tottenham Hotspur supporting pundit Darren Ambrose has revealed his true feelings about Vicario’s performance and advice Spurs to get him replaced with EURO 2024 star goalkeeper who’s performance shocked everyone
Guglielmo Vicario enjoyed a fruitful and entertaining debut campaign in Tottenham Hotspur colours last season.
For several years, Spurs fans felt that it was time to replace the highly experienced and long-serving Hugo Lloris in between the sticks.
That’s when Guglielmo Vicario entered the picture and proceeded to win over a lot of fans at Hotspur Way with his performances.
Given the number of big chances Tottenham were conceding, they were being saved and kept in the game by their new man between the sticks.
By the end of it all, Ange Postecoglou lauded Vicario and stated that he had a ‘brilliant’ season for Tottenham, but not everyone agrees.
Darren Ambrose feels there are ‘a little bit of flaws’ in the game of Vicario and even suggested that the officials didn’t protect him.
One of the big problems Tottenham faced during the second half of the previous campaign was their issues with defending set-pieces.
Vicario, in particular, was targetted, and that was proven during Tottenham’s disastrous home defeat to their north London rivals, Arsenal.
And now Ambrose, who is a boyhood Spurs fan, has suggested that Postecoglou should bring in another number-one goalkeeper, with Giorgi Mamardashvili suggested.
The Valencia star was one of the best keepers at Euro 2024 for Georgia and now Ambrose has backed the idea of Spurs signing him, as he told talkSPORT (21/07/24 at 4:30 pm).
Tottenham Hotspur told to replace Guglielmo Vicario with Giorgi Mamardashvili
“I thought he was sensational,” said Ambrose. “I am going to say it, for Spurs, potentially. They have Vicario, but there was a little bit of flaws in Viacario and I think people targeted that, in terms of coming for crosses.
“He wasn’t getting a lot of support from the officials, but people were targeting his weakness of coming for crosses. So, look, maybe, and we have seen with Arsenal with the two goalkeepers situation, sometimes that works. So, who knows? There could be other clubs looking to make two number twos for their first team.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024 summer transfer window
Tottenham are making moves in the summer transfer market, with Postecoglou and Co. preparing for a return to Europe.
After spending 12 months with their midweeks empty, they will now be playing Europa League football and it showcases the progression under the new coach.
Tottenham’s standout transfer has been Archie Gray, with Timo Werner also returning for another loan spell.
But with those players coming in, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has left for Marseille and one pundit ‘sorry’ that the deal has been concluded.
Now, all eyes will be on what they do next, with sources telling HITC that Noussair Mazrouai has been offered to West Ham and Tottenham.
