Antonio Conte and Napoli may have done Tottenham Hotspur a big favour.
The Italian has been appointed as the new boss of Napoli and he has been making some good moves there. The Partenopei could well challenge for the Serie A title next season.
Tottenham haven’t been doing too bad themselves. They have had a great start to their pre-season having won all three games and have been active on the transfer market as well.
Spurs have already re-signed Timo Werner on another loan deal, while Archie Gray has come in from Leeds United. A number of players have been moved out of the club too, including Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Tottenham are now expected to sign a few more players, and their old manager may have given them a big boost.
Tottenham receive Mario Hermoso boost thanks to Antonio Conte’s Napoli
Tottenham are on the market for reinforcements in their defence.
Ange Postecoglou has a very good back four of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, but they need backups.
Radu Dragusin is available, but Spurs could do with another player too – preferably a left-footed defender who could play instead of both Van de Ven and Udogie when required.
Tottenham have been linked with many players for that role in recent weeks. One of them is Mario Hermoso, who is now a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid.
Reports have claimed that Conte wants to sign Hermoso for Napoli but Tottenham could hijack the move to land the Spaniard this summer.
Battling Conte for a player’s signature is never easy, but Tottenham have just received a big boost.
Reacting to all the speculation, Napoli have officially distanced themselves from all the links to Hermoso and made it clear that they aren’t pursuing him.
“Tuttosport continues to talk about Hermoso at Napoli. The defence line was completed with the arrivals of Marin and Buongiorno. Although Hermoso is good, he is not part of Napoli’s objectives.”
That is excellent news for Tottenham, who could now have a free run at signing Hermoso in the coming days.

Heromso would be a risk-free signing for Tottenham
Hermoso checks many boxes for many clubs in this summer’s transfer window.
The Spaniard has a lot of experience under his belt. He has played 174 games under a manager like Diego Simeone, which would be impossible if you’re not a great defender.
To add to that, Hermoso can play both at centre-half as well as left-back. That makes him ideal for what Tottenham need this summer.
Furthermore, in what will surely delight Daniel Levy, Hermoso will not cost a penny in transfer fees in this window. That makes him a risk-free signing for Spurs.
We think Tottenham should make a move for Hermoso now that Napoli have publicly claimed that they are not interested in signing him.
