Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has put his name forward for the vacant Under-21 job following Ben Dawson’s sudden departure for Leicester City on Thursday.
According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Clark is interested in returning to the club, where he previously worked as an Under-23 coach before pursuing a managerial career that’s seen him work at Huddersfield, Birmingham and Blyth Spartans before a spell managing in the Middle East.
Former Sunderland boss Jack Ross – who currently works as Newcastle’s Head of Coach Development – is thought to be a possible interim option, but Hope reports that he’s been considered for a ‘more senior role’ within the Academy.
Either way, Dawson’s exit has left new Sporting Director Paul Mitchell with plenty to consider at Academy level, with new boss’ needed at Under-21 and Under-18 level after Graeme Carrick opted to join his brother at Middlesbrough at the end of June.
