Newcastle appear to be lng the race to sign a highly-rated winger on the continent.
After narrowly missing out on European fotball last season, Eddie Howe will be desperate to finish inside the top six this term.
To do that, he’ll need to be heavily backed in the market and it appears as though they’re close to signing Malick Thiaw.
Once that deal is completed, they could finalise the signing of a £29m-rated winger after missing out on Matias Soule.
Newcastle seem to be close to signing Nicolas Gonzalez
According to La Nazione, Newcastle United target Nicolas Gonzalez is now close to leaving Fiorentina.
Gonzalez’s next destination has not yet been confirmed, though, there is a suggestion that The Magpies have tabled a bid.
The 39-cap Argentina international, who has just won the Copa America, is thought to be valued at around £29m.
Atletico Madrid and clubs from Saudi Arabia are also keen on landing his signature but there’s a feeling Newcastle are leading the race.
Nicolas Gonzalez statistics
Gonzalez, who is left-footed, can operate across a number of different positions.
The 26-year-old plies his trade off both flanks and as a striker, so he’d provide great depth in multiple positions for Howe.
He netted 16 times whilst laying on five assists last term and featured in five of Argentina’s six Copa America games.
If Newcastle do land his signature, it’d be seen as quite the coup.
