🗣️ It got me so upset!

Heung-Min Son reveals Mourinho’s scathing critique at Tottenham that left him FURIOUS back then!

Heung-min Son has revealed one moment with former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho that left the South Korean winger annoyed.

The Spurs captain is coming up to nine years with the north London club, with Son since establishing himself as one of the best players in Totteham’s modern history as well as one of the most lethal forwards in the Premier League.

With Archie Gray praising Son in pre-season training, it’s clear that the Tottenham winger still has a lot to give Spurs in the new campaign, one in which the former Bayer Leverkusen star will want to finally win a trophy.

Yet Son has now shared an incident with former manager Mourinho during their time together at Tottenham.

Mourinho criticised Son in front of Tottenham squad to send a message

Speaking to EA Sports South Korea, Son shared a story about how Mourinho once told the winger off for having a bad game in front of the entire squad, with the Spurs captain confused as to why he was being signaled out by the manager.

However, it later emerged that Mourinho criticised Son as a way to send a message to the rest of the Tottenham squad given that the Portuguese manager thought the forward was the best player in the team, a tactic that other coaches have used throughout the Premier League.

Son recounts: “One time Mourinho told me off during a game, ‘I don’t think you want to be in a game with a team like Burnley or Stoke,’ in front of all the players, and I was so upset about it, I’m not even an or 18, 19-year-old to be treated like that.

“Later after the match, the coach texted me, ‘I know you understand that it wasn’t my intention to target and hurt you, but I need to make sure that other players are not being lazy. I need to show them by telling off the best player in the team, and for me, that player is you.’ After reading that text, I felt good.”

Mourinho could have used his methods to better use at Tottenham

The Mourinho era at Tottenham was one of the more confusing ones the north London side have endured in recent years, with the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager failing to live up to expectations at Spurs.

And based on Son’s story between him and Mourinho, the now-Fenerbahce coach could have used his methods in better situations, with the Special One unable to get a tune out of Tottenham despite his reputation.

Indeed, one could argue that Tottenham have come a long way since Mourinho, with Ange Postecoglou set for an exciting second year in north London where silverware could be a realistic possibility for Spurs if they play their cards right.
