Yves Bissouma hails Tottenham Star’s performance vs Bayern Munich despite the loss

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first defeat of this summer’s pre-season against Bayern Munich.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were on a roll in their friendlies. They had won every single game going into the clash against the German giants, but unfortunately for them, they came away with a defeat.

However, results absolutely don’t matter in pre-season games, and we’re sure Postecoglou wouldn’t have been too bothered about the score.

The Tottenham boss even praised many of his players after the game. Yves Bissouma has now joined his manager in raving about one of them.

Yves Bissouma hails Tottenham star Emerson Royal

Emerson Royal started the game on the bench for Tottenham, but he was brought on in the second half.

The Brazilian, once again, was deployed in the heart of the defence because Spurs are currently really short of options in that area of the pitch.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are yet to return from their holidays after the two players went far in the Copa America and Euros respectively.

Emerson has been linked with a move away from Tottenham, and it is very, very likely that he will be on his way out in the coming days.

However, that hasn’t stopped him from giving his all every time he is on the pitch for Spurs.

Emerson did a decent job at centre-back again for Tottenham against Bayern Munich on Saturday afternoon. He should be proud of his display.

Bissouma, who also came on as a substitute in the second half, was beyond impressed with the Brazil international.

Reposting a picture of Emerson on his Instagram Story, Bissouma wrote: “This guy is a soldier!”

What Postecoglou said about Emerson’s performance at centre-back

Emerson hasn’t been on top of Postecoglou’s pecking order since the start of the 2023/24 season.

However, the Brazilian stepped up when some of his teammates suffered from injuries, and he has played across the backline to help the team out.

The former Barcelona man had to fill in at centre-half again during Spurs’ pre-season tour, and Postecoglou admitted that he was concerned about using players out of position.

However, he hailed the Brazilian, as well as Jamie Donley and Oliver Skipp, for performing well in the heart of the defence.

Postecoglou said, as per Football London: “It’s probably been my one concern coming into it because you are playing players out of position. The games can become a little bit unrealistic.

“But, I thought the guys who had to fill in this whole tour have been really good. Skippy and Jamie Donley and Emerson playing at centre-back.

“So I think it’s allowed us at least to get something out of the games because I think if those positions didn’t work out, it would have been hard for us to sort of analyse.”

“But, I think they’ve all contributed to us trying to get as much as we can out of this camp.”
