Brentford branded ’embarrassing’ for what they did on Ivan Toney’s return to the club
Ivan Toney returned to Brentford following his campaign at Euro 2024 with England.
Fans have hit out at Brentford’s ’embarrassing’ presentation to Ivan Toney following his return to the club.
Toney has returned to Brentford ahead of the new season following his campaign at Euro 2024 with England.
He set up Harry Kane for the Three Lions’ winner against Slovakia and converted an ice-cold penalty in their victorious shootout against Switzerland.
The 28-year-old has now linked up with his teammates as they prepare for the 2024/25 season, having had an extended break.
And he received a hero’s welcome upon returning to the club as he was greeted by Thomas Frank and the first-team squad.
Brentford posted a video of Toney’s warm reception on X, accompanied with the caption: “Good to have you back, Ivan!”
But rival fans online slammed the way Brentford welcomed their main man back to the club following Euro 2024.
One X user wrote: “Embarrassing,” while another added: “Ffs youβd think heβs won the World Cup the way heβs being treated.”
A third said: “Honestly who tf is clapping him?”
Another questioned: “Why is everyone cheering?”
Toney has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer.
The likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham United have been linked with making a move for the star forward.
But Frank is hoping to call upon Toney’s services when the new season starts in a few weeks.
“What Iβm focusing on is that Ivan [Toney] is a Brentford player and Iβm very happy that heβs here,” he said. “If heβs here when we start the season, I would be over the moon. Iβve said before weβre a selling club but what I know is that Ivan is a player for us.”
Toney has been at Brentford since the summer of 2020. He has scored 72 goals in 141 games across all competitions for the club.
