Tottenham Hotspurs star breaks silence and narrates what he went through before he could adapt to Postecoglou’s training system
Pedro Porro has admitted that he initially struggled to adapt to the inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s system but revealed that he now absolutely loves the freedom that the role affords him.

One can argue that the full-backs are the most important players in Postecoglou’s system, with the Australian getting both his full-backs to invert rather than just one.
Furthermore, we often see both Porro and Destiny Udogie operate almost as number tens when Spurs have the ball.
Not only does the position require tactical intelligence and the ability to receive the ball on the half-turn, but it also requires tremendous stamina, with the full-backs expected to run up and down the pitch all game.
Porro is loving life as an inverted full-back
Porro grew into the role over the course of last season and was arguably one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers.
The Spaniard has now opened up on the challenges of adapting to the system but admitted that he absolutely loves the role now.
Porro told the Pro Direct Soccer YouTube channel: “The first season here I was a normal right-back. This right-back I am a number nine or a number ten, it was difficult for me because it was a new system.
“Now it is top. I play inside, I play outside, it is very good. I love it.”

Porro is perfectly suited to playing as an inverted right-back as he is technically good enough to play as a midfielder while his vision and passing are second to none, with the 24-year-old capable of producing defence-splitting balls if he is afforded time and space.
