A fresh update on Eze to Tottenham.

Jamie O’Hara, a trusted Tottenham journalist, has revealed if Eberechi Eze’s potential transfer to Tottenham could be back on – despite reports that the midfielder rejected the move.

Tottenham identified the England midfielder, who played a crucial role in Crystal Palace’s success, as a top target earlier this month. The Athletic claimed that Palace expected Eze, who has a release clause of £40 million contained within his contract, to make the move to Spurs.

Money was not expected to be an issue in the deal, given the existence of the release clause. However, Palace tried to convince the 25-year-old, a key player, to stay.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Eze had decided not to join Tottenham. It was added that Ange Postecoglou’s side are ‘unlikely’ to target an alternative, despite not making a single signing this summer.

But The Times claim that contract talks between Eze and Palace are currently ‘problematic’, leaving Spurs supporters thinking the move might not be impossible.

Jamie O’Hara provided an update on whether Tottenham feel the deal can be resurrected:

“It’s difficult to say. I don’t have any indication that Tottenham think it can be revived. If there was an opportunity, they wouldn’t have suddenly lost interest.

“But, I haven’t spoken to anyone who thinks it can be revived. New contract talks and a pay rise were part of Palace’s efforts to keep him. It was never about wages; Tottenham would have offered better personal terms.

“It was about Eze’s emotional bond to Palace. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get what he wants financially from Palace and then changes his mind. Stranger things happen in football, but currently, there’s no indication it will happen.”

O’Hara’s insight suggests that while the door might not be entirely closed, a Tottenham move for Eze seems unlikely at present.
