Dominic Solanke is Tottenham’s new star striker
Solanke’s arrival at Tottenham has garnered a mixed response, perhaps because of the huge fee the club spent on the striker, with some pundits considering a move to be a gamble ( talkSPORT).
However, other experts have pointed out that the Englishman is a perfect tactical fit for Ange Postecoglou’s side, given his ability to finish off chances inside the box and his tendency to constantly press and hurry the opposition defenders ( FourFourTwo ).The former Cherries star will battle it out with Richarlison to lead the line for Spurs and he might be handed his debut on Monday against Leicester City, with the Brazilian only recently returning from a long-term injury layoff.Merson is convinced that Solanke will prove an upgrade on Richarlison and backed the new Spurs newcomer to also help bring the best out of James Maddison.When asked which summer signing will have the most impact, the former Arsenal midfielder told
Sky Sports: “I’ve pretty much answered that in Solanke. At Spurs, Richarlison is a good player on his day, but you need more than that on your day.
“Solanke could be that difference because teams were starting to push up on Spurs and suffocate them, but Solanke’s pace and his threat in behind can help stretch the game for Postecoglou’s side.
“That could in turn help James Maddison, who didn’t get much space at all when he returned to the team after his injury. But Solanke will help him get space and, with time and space, Maddison can pick out anybody.”think Solanke is going to surprise a lot of people with how well he does at Spurs.
Given the number of low crosses that the likes of Son and Johnson get into the box, the 26-year-old might even be an outside shout for the Golden Boot.
