Radu Dragusin to give Ange Postecoglou selection problem in new Tottenham verdict

Radu Dragusin to give Ange Postecoglou selection problem in new Tottenham verdict.

Radu Dragusin will get an opportunity to prove himself in a Tottenham shirt after an “impressive” Euro 2024 campaign, Paul Robinson has said.

The 22-year-old defender has been given limited chances by Ange Postecoglou since arriving from Genoa in January, making just four Premier League starts last season.

Despite this, Dragusin was still a key member of Romania’s squad for Euro 2024, where they reached the Round of 16 before losing 3-0 to the Netherlands, and Robinson was excited by his displays.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I was recently impressed with him at Euro 2024 and I was delighted when they signed him last summer. Spurs needed someone to challenge Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. They’re excellent, but looking at their injury and suspension records, neither will complete a full season.

“Dragusin will get his opportunity at some point. Ange Postecoglou’s preferred pairing is Van de Ven and Romero but he’s got the chance to play three at the back. He was unlucky last season because he came on a few times as a holding midfielder, trying to hold on in games.

“He also came on in the full-back areas and didn’t get a run of games at centre-half. He was really impressive at Euro 2024, how combative he was and his leadership skills, so his opportunity will come, especially with the European games.

“It’s up to him to take the opportunity when it comes. I’m sure we’ll all see what he can do in a Spurs shirt rather than an international one, and he’ll give the manager a problem.”

Radu Dragusin ready for the 2024/25 campaign at Tottenham

Due to Van de Ven and Romero’s international displays, Dragusin was given an opportunity during Spurs’ pre-season tour, and it was certainly a mixed set of results ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 22-year-old is clearly a talented centre-half, but with the options already at Postecoglou’s disposal, it is no wonder he is currently seen as a back-up option.

However, with Spurs set to compete in the Europa League this season, Postecoglou will need to utilise Dragusin to keep his squad fit and ready for battle, so he must take his opportunity when one arises.
