Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou shares how much game time Archie Gray could get this season.
Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for their second Premier League game of the season as Everton come to north London on Saturday.
Spurs were wasteful in their 1-1 draw at Leicester and will want to make amends against a team that suffered the heaviest defeat of match-week one.
Tottenham also have six days left in which to make any further moves in the summer transfer market.
So far, Spurs have prioritised signings for the future, with teenagers making up four of the club’s new arrivals or signings this summer.
Two of those featured in Tottenham’s opener against Leicester, and Postecoglou has been speaking about one of those players at his pre-Everton presser.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou believes Archie Gray ‘is going to play a lot’
Postecoglou will be without Rodrigo Bentancur on Saturday, as the Spurs coaches don’t want to take any chances with him following his head injury at Leicester.
When asked by football.london’s Alasdair Gold whether Gray is a candidate to replace Bentancur, the Spurs boss replied: Who knows, mate.
“Everywhere we’ve put him so far he has looked really comfortable and that’s a credit to him that he has adjudged to Premier League football.
“That was him and Lucas’ first Premier League game last week and they came on and made an impact, which is fantastic for us when you think about two 18-year-olds who are already making an impact.
“Yeah we’ll see with Archie. Like I said he is obviously a very smart young man in terms of receiving information.
“Whatever position we put him, we try to guide him through that and he takes that on board really well. And it is going to be an asset for us.
“Look, we’re one game into a 50+ season so I am sure he is going to play a lot. He might play a number of positions and where he ends up?
“I think he will be the master of his own destiny in terms of that.”
Gold confident about Gray game time prospects
On Thursday, Gold hosted a Q&A on football.london and a fan asked him whether he saw Gray and Bergvall starting for Spurs regularly.
“I see them getting plenty of minutes in the coming months and starting lots of matches,” replied the Spurs insider.
“They’ve been a huge success this summer and have proved in both training and the summer matches to be more than ready.
“I felt that both on their Premier League debuts on Monday night looked really sharp and comfortable.
“Don’t forget that Postecoglou has previously said how he relishes working with young players because they’re more mouldable, adaptable and often hungrier than older ones.
“Gray and Bergvall are also incredibly talented players and Postecoglou is delighted with them.”
With Tottenham in the Europa League, it presents a great opportunity for Gray and Bergvall to get significant game time in the coming months.
