Fabrizio Romano reveals that Spurs are closing in on a unique summer transfer deal β one that will see the Lilywhites agree a priority to sign a player in the future, rather than signing him now
One of Tottenhamβs priorities for transfer deadline day was always going to be the sale of Argentine midfielder, Giovani Lo Celso, who has not played a single minute for the Lilywhites this summer.
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Spurs and Real Betis remain in talks to strike a last-minute deal that would see Lo Celso swap North London for Spain.
Ironically, it was actually Real Betis who Spurs signed Lo Celso from back in 2019, but the creative midfielder has never quite lifted up to expectation in N17.
It appears that Real Betis are using 22-year-old American midfielder, Johnny Cardoso, to sweeten the deal in an attempt to sign Lo Celso in the coming hours.
Although Spurs will not actually sign Cardoso this summer, they are reportedly looking at agreeing on a priority option to sign him in the future, should they decide to.
Even if Tottenham decide against signing Cardoso in the future, they will still be entitled to a percentage of his sale, as per the agreement with Real Betis.
Fabrizio Romano also added : βThis is a very good player, very goodβ¦ and Spurs will have an option to get him first, if this deal happens.β
