Premier League star roasted by fans after getting ‘cooked’ for national team in shock Nations League defeat

His national team lost 3-1 in a shock defeat.
A Premier League star was roasted on social media following his performance for his national side.
A host of players who ply their trade in England’s top flight are currently on international duty.
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva started in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Croatia on Thursday.
And on Friday, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori featured during France vs. Italy.
Not to mention William Saliba, who had a game to forget.
Despite France taking the lead, they were comfortably beaten 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.
Bradley Barcola opened the scoring in the first minute, but his effort was cancelled out by Federico Dimarco.
Davide Frattesi put the visitors ahead before Giacomo Raspadori added a third.
Saliba was at fault for Raspadori’s strike as he failed to stop the forward’s run.

Fans online ruthlessly took aim at Saliba following the shock UEFA Nations League result.
One X user wrote: “There’s a reason why Deschamps wants Fofana at every opportunity he can, Konate and Saliba just can’t hack it.”
A second argued: “William Saliba is not the problem, The France team is MID.”
A third added: “Saliba was COOKED.”
A fourth blamed Didier Deschamps: “Deschamps should go.”
Another said: “Italy cooking ‘the best defender in the world’ Saliba.”
Speaking after the crushing defeat, Deschamps said: “We need to face the facts. We were not able to maintain our efforts throughout the game. Italy hurt us in making the most of our mistakes and the pockets of space we allowed them. I told the players what I thought but, in the end, I’m responsible of what happens.”
This was France’s first game since their Euro 2024 semi-final defeat to Spain.

They resume their Nations League campaign next Monday when they host Belgium.
