Miguel Almiron has now changed his mind about moving to Saudi Arabia if he leaves Newcastle

It was a surprise to see Miguel Almiron remain at Newcastle United this summer.
The Paraguay international was heavily linked with a move away from St James’ Park, while Newcastle United were scouring the market for someone to come in and play in his position.
However, the Magpies were unable to sign a winger. Newcastle’s last-gasp bid for Anthony Elanga fell short, while there was never a suitable offer for Miguel Almiron.
The 30-year-old did almost return to the MLS, having played in America before signing for Newcastle United in 2019.
Charlotte FC tried to sign Almiron, but that deal collapsed due to financial reasons. The MLS side were unable to meet Newcastle’s asking price and match Almiron’s wage demands, which resulted in the transfer collapsing.

Miguel Almiron has had interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia
All the while, there was also talk of clubs in Saudi Arabia wanting to sign Miggy – just months after he had turned down a move to the Middle East.
Newcastle almost sold him to a club in Saudi Arabia in January, with Al-Shabab provisionally agreeing a deal to sign Almiron. However, Almiron did not want to play in the Saudi Pro League.
That stance stopped a deal becoming a reality in January, while talks over Almiron moving to Saudi Arabia for £20million in the summer never went any further than that.
How Miguel Almiron now feels about leaving Newcastle to join a club in Saudi Arabia
With the transfer window now closed, Almiron is struggling for minutes. He has made just two Premier League appearances, both of which came as a late substitute. His only start has been in the Carabao Cup, with Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy starting on the right ahead of him.
Howe has praised Almiron and called him ‘committed’, but fresh speculation over a move away from St James’ Park will no doubt arrive ahead of January.
And, according to Give Me Sport, there is a ‘serious possibility’ that Almiron could leave Newcastle in January as he prepares to ‘explore potential options’.
They report that a return to the MLS would be Almiron’s preference. However, Give Me Sport also state Almiron would now consider a move to the Saudi Pro League, depending on what was offered to him.
Newcastle United will need to sign a replacement
That would represent a U-turn from Almiron, but his future will likely be dictated by whether or not the Magpies can find a replacement.
While it is clear that Almiron does not have a long-term future at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe is not going to sanction a move away during the middle of the season without another winger coming in to take his place.
That is where Paul Mitchell will have to work his magic, as he prepares to overhaul Newcastle United’s recruitment.
it has been reported that Newcastle’s January priority is to sign a winger, so that could open the door for Almiron to depart – if a suitable offer comes his way.
