Jamie Carragher weighs in on Newcastle United situation
The likes of Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane have been discussing the Newcastle United situation on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast.
Carragher has given his thoughts, and shared what he has heard within the game about Mitchellās arrival on Tyneside.
āFrom what you are hearing about the rumours within the game and you hear things speaking to people, it sounds to me like the sporting director has come in and itās like hang on, slow down,ā he said.
In response, Roy Keane said: āThey say the hardest part of management is managing upwards, so this is another side to him. Heās vastly experienced, heās done a brilliant job, now he has to get over the next few months.ā
What was recently reported about Paul Mitchellās Newcastle United arrival
Carragherās comment aligns with what the Daily Mail recently reported about Mitchellās arrival at St Jamesā Park.
They reported that Mitchell had said he was going to sort things out at Newcastle United, and that he would have to ruffle some feathers to do that.
Mitchell has certainly done that, and if it brings long-term success then fair play to him for his rather bold approach. However, in the short-term it looks like he is playing with fire.
While Newcastle have lofty ambitions, they have achieved a lot since the takeover. That is mainly down to Eddie Howe and his ability as a manager. Mitchell must not forget that and needs to support Howe, rather than antagonise.
Roy Keane is right about Eddie Howe and Newcastle
Roy Keaneās comments on the situation are interesting, as he sets out what Howe must do.
After a great start to his Newcastle United career, this is an obstacle he needs to overcome. As Keane says, he has done a brilliant job so far, and he must lean on his experience to get through this tricky period.
You would like to assume that the relationship will improve if performances on the pitch improve. Right now, the talk of unrest is a major distraction, and Alan Shearer thinks it will impact the Newcastle players.
The club cannot afford for the behind the scenes issues to filter down onto the pitch. If Newcastle continue to struggle, the speculation and uncertainty will only intensify.
In that respect, Howe can improve the situation by getting a lot more out of his Newcastle United team. The pressure is on him to deliver, although Howe might argue that his job has been made harder by the lack of signingsā¦
Regardless, the Newcastle board still expect Howe to guide the club back into Europe.
