West Ham have failed to win yet another game under Julen Lopetegui after a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday 28 September.
It was a nightmare start for the Spaniard as Bryan Mbeumo found the back of the net with less than a minute on the clock.
The Hammers did get back on level terms in the second half, after a quiet opening 45 minutes, through Tomas Soucek who found himself in the right place at the right time.
The 29-year-old’s strike was the last meaningful action of the game as Lopetegui’s side secured a point away from home.
West Ham Zone rated each player out of 10.
Alphonse Areola – 5
The Frenchman didn’t really have much to do throughout the game but was frustratingly breached after just 38 seconds. Areola could be better with the ball at his feet especially given he wasn’t subject to many efforts on goal from the Bees.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5
Jean-Clair Todibo – 6
Todibo looked at home in the heart of the Hammers’ defence after finally being handed a Premier League start. The Frenchman was tidy on the ball and wasn’t afraid to make a challenge as he made a good account of himself to Lopetegui.
Max Kilman – 6
Similar can be said of Kilman who partnered the former Barcelona man well to form a positive unit at the back. It has to be said that the Bees didn’t create very much but the 27-year-old helped to reduce any chances from falling their way.
Emerson – 4
He was booked with less than 20 minutes on the clock so it was no surprise to see him taken off during the interval. It wasn’t a bad performance from the 30-year-old but he just posed a risk on a yellow card up against some of Brentford’s quality players in forward areas.
Guido Rodriguez – 5
The Argentine looked solid enough at the base of midfield but was often passed by the more dynamic midfield of Frank’s side. Rodriguez would have been hopeful of having a more telling defensive impact but played a role nonetheless.
Tomas Soucek – 7
The Czechia international had a telling impact from midfield for the Irons, once again finding himself in the perfect place to draw his side level. His impact under Lopetegui has been clear to see despite not always being the best on the eye.
Lucas Paqueta and Mohamed Kudus struggle for West Ham v Brentford
Lucas Paqueta – 4
It has to be said that Paqueta has been off the boil in recent weeks but did look like his usual self as he played a role in Soucek’s goal. Despite this, the Brazilian was wasteful at times and certainly had to do better with the ball at his feet at times. It wasn’t a surprise to see him replaced in the second half, despite him thinking otherwise.
Lucas Paqueta’s potential ban could leave West Ham short of options in midfield.
Mohammed Kudus – 4
The 24-year-old just hasn’t found his feet yet this season. Kudus looked miles off it against the Bees which meant it was little surprise that he was hooked at half time. A bad day at the office for the Ghanaian.
Jarrod Bowen – 5
Another quiet showing from the Hammers captain who didn’t have much of an attacking impact on his side throughout the clash. There is very little to say good or bad about Bowen.
Michail Antonio – 6
It did come as a surprise somewhat to see the Jamaica international starting ahead of Danny Ings but his showing was positive at times. Despite frustratingly drifting wide at times, he had a telling impact for Soucek’s goal which is what he was there to do.
