Newcastle United take on Everton in the Premier League this evening (kick-off 5:30pm) in what is their last ever visit to Goodison Park.
Eddie Howe’s side bounced back from their 3-1 defeat at Fulham with a hard earned point against Manchester City at St James’ Park last Saturday. The Magpies have beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road this campaign but there are still question marks over their ability to perform away from home.
During the 2023-24 campaign, United claimed just 20 points from a possible 57 away from Tyneside.
“We want to be the same team home and away,” said Howe. “No part of us wants to send a team out and recognise we are playing away from home. We want to see the same energy, the same determination to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dictate play.
“If you look at the top teams, that’s what they done. Take Manchester City. They don’t change, and that’s a compliment. They grab the game, they’re in control of the game. You wouldn’t know whether they’re playing home or away. That’s target for us to try and hit.
“For whatever reason, we’ve been inconsistent. It doesn’t mean it’s all bad. There has been some good in there, but we need to find that consistency.”
United are without some key players, namely Alexander Isak who is sidelined with a broken toe. With Callum Wilson also unavailable, Anthony Gordon is set to lead the line against his former club.
