Newcastle want Antoine Semenyo to fill their ‘problematic right-wing role’, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 24-year-old winger is ‘very high up on the wanted list’ after an impressive start to the season with Bournemouth.

Semenyo has arguably been Bournemouth’s best player so far this season, scoring three and assisting one in their opening seven Premier League games.

Newcastle were interested in bringing a new right winger in over the summer but instead decided to prioritise a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, which ultimately fell through.

It’s understood that Bournemouth would be reluctant to sell Semenyo in January, and are well placed to turn down any advances following Dominic Solanke’s £65million sale to Tottenham in August.

Eddie Howe’s side are seriously lacking in goals at the moment, scoring just eight in their first seven Premier League games of the season.

Newcastle’s only right-wing options are Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, but neither have made a significant impact this season.

Of the two, only Murphy has contributed to goals, providing two assists in their 2-1 win over Tottenham and 3-1 defeat to Fulham.

Once the international break is over, Newcastle face a Brighton side fresh off the back of their impressive 3-2 comeback win over Tottenham on matchday seven.
