According to Mark Douglas for iNews, Newcastle United have set a £15m price tag for the sale of Miguel Almiron in January after interest reignites across the world.
Newcastle will have high expectations placed upon them in the January transfer window after an incredibly disappointing effort in the summer of this year.
The Magpies appointed former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Paul Mitchell to succeed departing Dan Ashworth, and it is safe to say the operation to deliver a healthy recruitment strategy for progression in the Premier League has not materialised yet.
Indeed, Newcastle have been, like many clubs, subjected to huge restrictions on their spending and recruitment plans due to the need to comply with strict PSR regulations, however, an ambitious effort to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi hinted that the funds were available to complete transfers.
The England international became the object of the North East outfit’s desires after an impressive Euro 2024 campaign and a consistent season with Palace, but the South London were not convinced that even a £65m bid submitted would be enough to part ways with their talented player, especially after selling Joachim Andersen to Fulham.
As a result, this one-dimensional approach to signing much-needed defensive reinforcements this summer caught Newcastle short, and ultimately led to very little impactful activity in the transfer market when it slammed shut in September.
Now the Geordies will need to do everything they can to ensure that this is not the case in January and that a clear recruitment strategy is in place before the transfer window opens in the new year.
It has been reported by iNews this week that Newcastle will go into the winter window with much intention and are preparing to bolster funds needed to directly improve problem areas in the first-team squad, with determination from Mitchell to work with a wider pool of prospects to avoid falling short again.
The publication details that this strong desire to bring in new additions in January means that they would also be open to selling players to fund that venture, and right winger Miguel Almiron is attracting huge interest as his future is not promised at St James’ Park.
It is claimed that £15m would be the amount needed to part ways with the Paraguayan attacker this January, with interest from Fulham and Everton in the Premier League, while clubs are also vying for his signature in the United States, Turkey and Brazil, as per the report.
Will Newcastle sell Miguel Almiron?
There is no doubt that Almiron became somewhat of a cult hero and a talisman in the Toon upon the Saudi-led takeover, with the 30-year-old winger lighting up St James’ Park with some notable performances in the past.
Once dubbed “unplayable” by his teammate Dan Burn, Almiron scored 11 goals and registered four assists in the 2022/23 season and it seemed the player had massively improved his game under the guidance of Eddie Howe.
However, he has unfortunately been able to continue that consistency seen two seasons ago and has had his game time significantly reduced in all competitions, with Jacob Murphy being often preferred by the Newcastle boss on the right flank.
Apart from a start against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup, Almiron has only been given 30 minutes of action from the bench in the first seven Premier League outings.
As a result, if a club were to step forward to acquire the services of the Paraguay international for the right price in January, it would be likely sanctioned to boost funds for new incomings for the second half of the season.
