Thomas Tuchel’s Ollie Watkins stance already clear as ‘shark’ comment spells trouble

Thomas Tuchel’s Ollie Watkins stance already clear as ‘shark’ comment spells trouble.

Ollie Watkins’ chances of becoming England’s main striker appear even slimmer now Thomas Tuchel has been appointed the new Three Lions’ boss.

Aston Villa’s star striker has had to play second fiddle to Harry Kane throughout his international career – and that is unlikely to change in the near future given the relationship between Tuchel and Kane.

Tuchel made Kane his statement signing for Bayern Munich in August last year. And while the pair might only have spent one season together in Munich before Tuchel departed at the end of last season, they clearly have a lot of admiration for each other. Kane also scored 44 goals in 45 matches under the German.

Speaking previously about coaching Kane, Tuchel said: “It’s just a gift, I feel very privileged to be his coach. The guy is super humble, he’s the first out there on the pitch every single day and anything you ask of him, he will do it.

“He’s a huge personality who becomes a shark on the field, because he wants to score, he wants to win, and he does it on a daily basis. He doesn’t only score on a daily basis, he trains well, he does what is needed, he shows his quality.

“He calms everyone down around him and makes everyone better by his pure presence. It’s the highest level, I can put it like this, as a human being but also as a footballer.”

Kane was equally full of praise for Tuchel before his appointment by England was made official. “Obviously, I know Thomas well from last year. Fantastic coach, fantastic person,” he said.
