Frank Lampark sent a heartfelt message to Enzo Maresca as he player he must start in Chelsea’s next PL game.
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has called on Enzo Maresca to start Pedro Neto in the club’s next Premier League game after his impact against Liverpool.
The Blues slipped to their second defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 in a tightly contested game at Anfield with Maresca’s men letting themselves down with individual errors defensively.
Despite the defeat there were definitely positives to take with one of those being Reece James and Romeo Lavia coming through unscathed after playing 53 minutes.
Lampard calls for Neto to start Chelsea’s next game
After a tight first half the Blues came out the blocks after the break and equalised through a well taken finish from Nicolas Jackson , his fifth goal in eight games this season.
Despite Jackson’s good start to the season Gary Neville still feels Chelsea need to sign a first choice striker if they are to challenge for the title in the next few years.
Another positive was the performance of Neto, who replaced Jadon Sancho at half-time and the Portugal international impressed in the second half.
The 24-year-old was much more direct than Sancho and looked to take on his full-back and was also a threat when he was moved to the left after Christopher Nkunku came on.
It’s been a slow start to life at Chelsea for Neto, with this arguably his best performance for the Blues following his £51.4m from Wolves in the summer and Lampard has called for Maresca to start the winger in the next game.
“Pedro Neto came on and added a lot, he has probably pushed himself into a big chance of starting the next game. I think he should, ” he told the Premier League’s official website.
Chelsea’s next game is against Panathinaikos in the Conference League on Thursday night, a game which Neto is more than likely to start.
It represents another chance for the Portuguese to show Maresca he should be starting more regularly in the Premier League and he needs another strong performance to really give his manager a headache after only starting twice in the league this season.
