Ange Postecoglou granted new Mickey Moore opportunity to enhance future Tottenham plans

Moore is a prodigious talent and he’s excelled at academy level for Tottenham, which has gained him international recognition. The 16-year-old shone for England at the Under-17 European Championships this summer, scoring a brace against France before two stunning efforts against Spain and Portugal. Moore’s technical ability and composure are exceptional for his age and he possesses the flexibility to play across the front line or as an attacking midfielder. He’s widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in England and Spurs boss Postecoglou spoke effusively about him during pre-season.Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in,” Postecoglou admitted. “He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment — he did at the end of last year. He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training. All we can do is keep allowing him to develop. We have to remember that last year he had some injuries and he is only 16, but — yeah — super exciting.”

Will Mikey Moore become first-team regular next season?

It’s highly unlikely that Moore will start Tottenham’s opening game of the season away to Leicester City but he should get minutes across the campaign. Spurs’ participation in the Europa League will benefit the youngster as it will provide more opportunities to play in a less physical and intense competition than the Premier League. On the 11th August, Moore committed his future to Tottenham by signing his first professional contract on his 17th birthday until 2027.Despite Tottenham’s recent focus on youth, no teenager played more than 45 minutes under Postecoglou in the league last season. Moore has impressed in pre-season and scored against Hearts before netting the winner against Vissel Kobe and he possesses the ability to push for first-team minutes. As the graphic above illustrates, Tottenham have plenty of attacking options and despite his versatility, Moore has predominantly been used on the wings by Postecoglou and he will be in competition with Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon for minutes. Moore’s emergence will provide Postecoglou with a dilemma over signing another winger as the Australian won’t want to block his pathway with a new striker likely to arrive, which could lead to Heung-min Son playing wide more often.

Harry Kane comparisons

Whenever a young attacker is progressing through Tottenham’s academy then it’s almost inevitable they’ll be compared to Spurs’ most famous son, Kane. The England captain became the North London club’s top ever goalscorer before moving to Bayern Munich last summer and he’s left an unquestionable void. Stylistically, Moore isn’t too comparable to Kane but their record at youth level are remarkably similar. For Tottenham’s under 18 side, Moore provided a remarkable 31 goal contributions in 24 games at 1.5 per 90 minutes, which is just slightly less than Kane’s record of 1.6 g/a per 90.
