The Magpies will be desperate to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, but getting a result against Liverpool will be a tall order.

St James’ Park has often been a fortress under Howe, but last time out Newcastle suffered a miserable 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
The home record this season now sits at three wins, one draw and two defeats.
However, Newcastle have shown this season that they can compete with the top teams at home. The Magpies have picked up wins against Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal at home this season while also drawing with Manchester City.
Newcastle often step up in the big occasions, and Howe will be hoping for a big response on Wednesday evening.
Ahead of the match, Liverpool boss Slot praised Newcastle’s home support.
Speaking on LFCTV, Slot said: “The good thing is that the players feel and know and I think the fans see it as well, how much effort we put in.
“It sounds so simple to bring this effort every two or three days but now maybe the difficult period is coming up with so many games at the end of a long period.
“We are having a few injuries as well now, especially in our last line, so it is not as simple as it looks the amount of wins we have. And the players know. We hope we can keep putting these performances in, which is needed because now it is Newcastle away and they are very intense with their fans. People told me that the Everton fans can be intense as well! But first Newcastle.”
Newcastle United’s terrible record vs Liverpool
If Howe is going to spring a surprise and cause an upset on Wednesday, he will have to end a nine-year run of no victories against the Merseyside outfit.
Newcastle last beat Liverpool in 2015 when Steve McClaren led the Toon to a victory over Jurgen Klopp.

Since then, the two sides have met 15 times in all competitions and Newcastle have failed to pick up a single win.
Liverpool have won 11 of those 15, including all of the last six meetings.
