Viktor Gyokeres sends fresh Arsenal transfer message at perfect time.
Former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, has once again demonstrated his value by netting another hat-trick in his latest performance for Sporting CP.
As Arsenal’s search for a striker continues into the January transfer window, one potential deal that has caught the attention of fans is the signing of goal machine Gyokeres.
Despite the player himself previously dismissing any move in January, anticipation is still high for the summer 2025 window. If Mikel Arteta was considering dipping into the market this month for a new forward, Gyokeres has sent a clear message that he should be the top priority.
Gyokeres, who has a 100m Euros release clause, has earned the Sky Blues around £20m after fulfilling all of his add-ons to the initial transfer fee in terms of goals, appearances and honours. City also stand to earn a 10 percent slice of the difference between what they were paid for the Sweden international, and the figure he’s eventually sold for, although some of that has to be shared with his former club Brighton.
The Swedish international scored his 71st, 72nd and 73rd goals in 78 appearances for his Portuguese club last night, with his first goal coming just two minutes into the game, followed by others in the 14th and 57th minutes. However, his efforts were not enough to secure victory, as Sporting had to salvage a 4-4 draw against Vitoria SC in added time, continuing their recent struggles.
After maintaining an unbeaten record until November, the departure of Ruben Amorim to Manchester United has seen them dragged back into a domestic title race, with the coach’s replacement already dismissed.
Reports indicate that despite the forward having a €100m (£83m) release clause, there’s an understanding with Sporting bosses to permit a summer exit for a reduced fee of €60-70m (£50-58m).
